Health & Evidence · Featured Book Hunger Is Not an Emergency Sixty chapters on water fasting, free to read online. What it really does, what it doesn’t, and how to tell the difference. Read the book

Most of what you have read about fasting was written to sell you something.

Mouse results reported in human units. Cures on the cover and caveats in the acknowledgments. A Nobel laureate quoted saying something he never said.

This book takes the opposite approach.

Every claim arrives with its evidence attached in the same sentence: how the study was built, how many people were in it, and what it does not show. When the best available evidence runs against fasting, it appears here by name, usually before the evidence in favor. The weight-loss section opens on the Cochrane review that found little to no difference. One chapter concedes its objection outright. Another exists because an audit caught a chapter of this book stating the opposite of what its own sources reported, and the correction became the chapter.

There is a page near the front listing what fasting will not do, so no reader can say the book implied otherwise. There is a chapter on the three studies worth knowing and how to read each kind. There is a safety chapter with real numbers, a stop-list split by urgency, and a plain statement of who should not fast at all.

Sixty chapters. Every source named so you can check it, including the ones that argue against the book.
