The 9-11 Memorial Quilt Project

Kathie Baumgardner’s square

Kathie Baumgardner, who organized the project, stitched this square in memory of Mukul Agarwala, who was 37 and worked as a research analyst in the World Trade Center’s south tower. His wife, Rhea Shome, found the project online and wrote to Kathie about him: a gentle, kind man who always had time for other people, and who loved reading, music, old movies and sports.

The photos come from the project’s own online album of finished squares, recovered from the Internet Archive. Each square is the work of the stitcher named under it. Every effort is being made to preserve the historic significance of this project, though we will respect credible requests to remove a photo or a name. If you stitched one of these squares, contact us.
